Stateside E34 2.9L 76mm etc

Post by Urinemachine »

Greetings from Pennsyvlania, USA!

Hello all - figured I would post my build page over here because a lot of the cars on this site have been my motivation to do what I've done. My car was already turbocharged on a M50B25 non vanos with a T3 Holset H1E - I decided it was time to go bigger and these pictures should document that fairly well.

1992 E34 525i
ZF 310Z transmission
4 puck ClutchNet clutch and pressure plate
M50B25 2.9L non vanos
PT76GTS turbocharger
28x20x4" intercooler
4" exhaust
MegaSquirt EMS to be replaced with AEM or Autronic
Direct port nitrous injection
Direct port methanol injection

This is the car before:

This was to be the engine that would go in the car:

That engine was a factory refreshed M50B25 non vanos, 2.5L with stock pistons and rods. I ceramic coated the pistons and all, but once I start thinking through it heavily I decided that this engine would not support the power I wanted.

Getting the old one out:

Messy!

Machining torque plate:

One thing I must say about my build - I am super clean about everything. Everything is either new or powder coated. Every bolt in the engine bay is brand new, and most of its powder coated.

I had decided that the 2.5L wasn't going to do what i wanted, so I built a 2.9L M50 non vanos using an M52B28 crankshaft and forged rods and pistons

Torque plate used :)

We also machined this block out for 1/2" head studs!

Thats the block before it was cleaned up

Don´t mount the fuelpump above your fuelcell fittings.

thank you andreas - the pump is well below the 1/2 fill point on the factory tank - if I have to I will get a fuel cell. I was in contact with Aeromotive and they assure me the a1000 pump will be fine I sent them that picture. They said the pump can lift 30' head lift, so it should be fine. We'll see.

How much would one need to spend usd to get one of your intake manifolds?

It costs ~ $1500 with shipping.
But we don´t have time to build one right now...

thanks! whats the max power you've made on a 2.8 - 3.0L with a stock OBD1 manifold? Think it will hold together with 35 psi from a 76mm ?

Hmmm - we'll have to see what happens. Cracks like a split in it or like pops and plastic bits everywhere? How much power should 28 psi on a 2.9L yield?
