Some progress :D. Car should be driveable in 2 weeks :D.
Supercharger is mounted permanently and I got the belt too that fits perfectly. Have to make mounting for belt tensioner on tuesday. Supercharger inlet, outlet and bypass valve are ready(not polished yet but that can wait ;) ). Next week I get he silicone hoses and able to finish the pressure pipes. :D. Not much to do anymore...By the way. Quite tight fit on drivers side ;)...heh

In this support plate there was a lot of work before it was done.
+I had to think something to check the oil level since the oil stick lost it´s place to something else ;)...

Tomorrow I´m getting thermostat housing from other bmw engine and If it fits I don´t have to do billet housing cover for it. The water hose was going to hit the pressure pipe so I need to change the outlet direction a little.

Here is couple short films driving the car.
http://www.student.oulu.fi/%7Esamila/videotbmw/

I still have the rev limiter at 5000rpm and ignition map is really conservative so there is no fear of knock. +I have little air filter so max boost is only 0.8bars for now. but you should get some idea of the car. I guess I´m missing quite a bit of power still. maybe 50hp or so.

Just little tuning and fixing of the looks.

Kalajoki the car went 14.153 and 167.5km/h at 1/4 mile...with 0.8bars
there was no grip with 1-2 gears...330 times are shit beacuse of that.

Next coming up smaller pulley to get the boost over 1bar...then it should be okay for mid-high 13:eens even with street tires. Alltough M/H street radials would be nice...

Hej!

yes, it´s quite nice to drive now from standstill to redline. I love the torque and how the engine feels. It has a lot of torque/power everywhere on the rev range and is really nice to handle in every situation..

I now have new belt drive for the charger and currently the max pressure is 1.38bars(98 atmo) . I calculated the pumping efficiency before the intake plenum(charger+cooler+pipes) and it only got down 3% with more boost.

One thing is that I got almost 0.9bars boost with only 1600rpm!!! If you dare to push the pedal...max boost comes under 2500rpm and remains to the redline almost the same..it´s coming down little bit towards the redline because of the thermal efficiency of the blower..

Right now I was quite affraid I would break the internals so I haven´t used full boost that much..and the rev limit was 5700rpm for testing the new drive ratio for the blower.

my ignition map over 0.8bars is conservative(better be safe than sorry) the EDIS ignition system was performing really well with 0.5mm cap in the plugs and I did not get any knocking or missfires after little tune up.

So I guess the intercooler is okay and the charger is performing very well..

I had some problem with belt slip and I have to do new tensioner pulley to get more grip.

I´m doing new exhaust and maybe port the head and change the cam to more agressive during the winter to get max boost somewhere near 1.2bars..

Now it´s too much for stock pistons and crankshafts..alltough I don´t have problems with high exhaust pressures and heat problems associated with turbo cars..

What power levels are the stock pistons and cranks giving up with turbo systems?

here is some links...couple new videos(vitonen, 3luistaa, nelonenoikealta) and some pictures of datalogs and new 17" rims...

PS: I just love the way it runs now and how the charger sounds..you just can´t hear that eaton whine everyday ;)..

It's a nice car but a lot of people follow threads without writing a reply just for the sake of it. That and the fact that people are spoiled on this forum is probably what's wrong :)

 yep..well..more to come. Have to get the horsepower level up someway..this engine is end of it´s development...can´t do much anymore..maybe 30hp or max 50hp to gain with this setup.

350hp is doable/okay but needs taking the head off for some porting+exhaust and camchange...Well..how much do you need in cabriolet anyway ;)..
next summer after the mods there should be steady 1.2bars boost.

Would be nice to build something really powerfull..but the big bucks are not coming to my way soon... rods, pistons, autorotor/turbo etc.

That needs another engine then...hmm..let´s think ;).

But I don´t think I´m going to build the new project engine to this chassis because the cabriolet weights too much...an that´s just a kill on the 1/4 mile strip..

well..it´s nice summer car with this engine..not a rocket but okay for summer cruising and listening the whine and some nice music..

I hate the finnish regulations for the road...kills the inspiration..alltought...V8 4.0L hmm..

My opinion is that in bmw engines the most cost effective is maybe a m30 turbo engine..without changin the internals

Nice car and nice sound from the supercharger! :D

If I were you I would keep the cab just the way it is and use it just for summer cruising, like you say, and build a new and lighter car for the strip.
